To start bidding and getting attention on odesk/Elance or PPH is very tough , but with time and your own brainstorming will help you get attention from clients gradually .

First make a decent profile and portfolio on these websites / market place .

Then browse through only those jobs where you are 100% confident you can deliver best .

Apply to them carefully don’t just do a copy-paste job while applying to jobs posted .

Make proposals if possible or a nice intro pitch .

Ask as many questions as you can from the clients .

You need to be elf dependent in replying to clients questions and concerns ( this is for BD professionals of companies who bid in these market places)

Instead of doing just a copy paste formula while applying to jobs posted be creative and put efforts and time on each and every job posted

many a times you should start with below methods

First see what’s the clients past experience on such market places , is he new or old

If client is of type where he has 50+ reviews but has spending of even as less as 5000$ in his life time on odesk then its not worth of your time spending as such clients are always looking for damn cheap , and direct developers interaction and no company proposals they need

if the case is other ways then read as much as you can the job post and based on that make a bid .

Ask as many questions as you can , instead of start saying we/i can do this job of yours give me/us a chance to proof

make a right budget quote , dnt just go with clients budget mentioned , because many a times they just post to get a idea of average cost .

once they reply to your application , try to ask them for Voice / Video chat

then send a proposal after your first meeting on interest of client

Once your proposal is accepted by the client , then dont forget to stop communication to them all of sudden.

Communication is the second most important thing which you need to take care of , be available for them to give time to time work status updates via email, skype etc

Always respect your deadlines you have mentioned on proposal .

Follow carefully the feedbacks provided by your client on intermediate project builds shown to them.

Maintain the quality always as this is your first job so dont take any single chance of mistakes

A timely and quality delivery will surely get you a 5 star review . Respect your client reviews and acknowledge it well .

Post delivery be available for any bug found etc to solve .

follow this steps above and surely you will gain with time , you dont only get new business but you will be able to retain your existing clients
